For me, their relationship becoming the main and only focus of the manga was the reason I quit. I was more interested in 'one awesome girl and four guys sharing awesome adventures together as best friends'. I guess if I shipped Sunako/Kyohei I would've cared more.
The early volumes were awesome, but after 7 volumes the plot kinda lost its shine. I wanted more freaky Sunako, and none of that "underneath it all she's just like other girls" BS.
I guess the reason why nothing's changed after 31 volumes, it's safe to say that the author hit a jackpot, and the fans like what they get. So why stop?

Same. I think there was a period where - after losing interest and forgetting about it for several years - I noticed that it was up to 20+ volumes, so I decided to reread the whole thing.
I think I got about a volume or so past where I'd last stopped, but by then - even though I'd finally reached new content - I was too bored to continue.

I get this nagging feeling that the author might just be too afraid to bring Sunako and Kyohei together.
It's so much more ridiculous to see how much more the anime and TV drama adaption have progressed more in plot and character development than the manga (and they get together in those adaptions!).
