90% of jokes and memes from the Hetalia fandom got old really fast, but I especially hate it when Prussia's characterization is reduced to "I AM SO AWESOME AND MY FIVE METRES ARE AWESOME BECAUSE I AM MADE OF AWESOMENESS THAT IS AWESOME WITH THE AWESOME AND THAT IS ALSO AWESOME." And when Hungary's characterization is reduced to "YAOI IS THE BEST THING EVER AND IF YOU DISAGREE I WILL HIT YOU WITH MY FRYING PAN." And when Belarus is all about "MARRIAGE MARRIAGE MARRIAGE MARRIAGE MARRIAGE MARRY ME BROTHER OR I WILL KILL YOU." Don't even get me started on America and France.

The problem with all that stuff is basically the same problem I have with CAPSLOCK!Thor in the Avengers fandom: It's hilarious in crackfics and parodies, but it gets used way too often in serious fic where it just doesn't work.

I was in it back in 2008-2009 and dang those were overused then.

As someone who saw (and probably helped) the formation of those memes, then I sincerely apologize.

(Though now I feel even less of an urge to recheck the fandom)

People use CAPS!Thor in serious fics? Sigh. I though that was just a thing for faked iPhone screenshots.

(Granted, I don't read any Avengers fic.)

crying because i remember when five meters was incepted & i loved prussia jokes back then

I'm actually okay when fandom jokes are just jokes, like some people find it funny so whatever. It's just... when they carry over into fic/art seriously that I start to get really annoyed.

+ infinity. For me, it's that "invasion automatically equals rape" meme, and yeah, don't get me started on the characterization of America, Canada, France or Russia.
