I thought exactly the same way about Peter and I don't think it was silly — I didn't woobify him or excuse a single one of his actions in any way, I sincerely believed him to be a horrible pathetic cowardly traitor, but I just believed he'd have a change of heart and feel remorse for what he did and sincerely help Harry, and not in the "oh, imma pause for a minute while killing you" way. In a legitimate conscious attempt to help them way, because sometimes horrible people do regret their actions.

I dunno, maybe I wanted the Marauders to not be a complete lie, so I hoped that Peter would acquire a tiny spark of his friends' goodness before he died. I didn't know that was silly. But I was thinking something along the lines of Darth Vader, where it just finally becomes too much for him to stand, even if he believed that it was too late for him.
