Professionally successful you mean? Because he doesn't sound to successful as a human being.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, professionally. In general, celebrity leads to assholes, but it's nice to be reminded from time to time that trans people can do more than just try to fit in unobtrusively.

Well considering he quit writing BEFORE the sex change, I don't see how this fits this guy either.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-09 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
He was still trans before the sex change. I'm trans and I have all my original parts.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-09 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
but its not the same as being successful while being openly trans

(Anonymous) 2012-08-09 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Which was not what I said, so...

(Anonymous) 2012-08-09 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Because he's still the same person? He has published works, and he is trans.

ayrt

Sorry I thought they just meant someone post-op not being discriminated against or something. I know that if you are trans, it doesn't matter if you ever do a surgery or even present yourself as the gender you feel you are or not.

' it doesn't matter if you...present yourself as the gender you feel you are or not.'

Sorry, but that would be the quickest way for me to dismiss someone being 'trans', it happens far too often with teens going through a phase.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-10 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's what... maybe one case out of how many possible scenarios for someone not wanting to present themselves as the gender they feel they are? For example someone who lives in a country or city that is very prejudices, often violently so. It wouldn't really be viable in a lot of those situations to let it even be known that they are trans.

So that is kind of a blanket prejudice when you never know the reasons someone might not be acting on it.

There are also those who can't afford to do very much in the way of transitioning. Anyone who can find a scissor can cut their hair, for example, but not everyone can afford a new wardrobe, hormones, surgery, etc.

honestly, seems like one of those burned out artists who has nothing more to give to their craft. I dunno if you want this one for that purpose.
