So I was lurking around a kink meme earlier today, and it seemed like there were a lot of prompts asking for stuff with an original female character. The prompters kept using the acronym "OFC."

The problem?

I keep reading it as "Original Fucking Character," and I get this mental image of this really angry guy yelling "that's my original fucking character! Don't steal!" and it cracks me up.

Anyone else have any acronyms that while they know what it means, they can't help but read it as something different?

Oh god, same here. It makes posts so much more interesting.

"Curiosity rover FTW!" becomes "Curiosity rover! Fuck! The -- what --" Did it just find an alien or something?

this is the only one that i could think of -- i actually said "fuck the what!" out loud once and i just got a blank stare and laughter from the friend with me.

I could not stop rereading this post anon because it sounded so familiar. So I looked back in F!S stuff. As it turns out there was a secret about this a while back. You can find it here. No, that wasn't me! I hadn't even seen that post before, weirdly enough. I feel less ridiculous, though, knowing that I'm not the only one that reads it like that.

Not quite the same, but I always giggle when I see Helping Children Through Research and Development, thanks to MST3K.

I also hate when people spell "laser" wrong, because it screws up the acronym.

I do that with acromyms a lot. I read "FTW" as "Fuck the Woot". Other things too in the past, that I can't remember now.

I also constantly hear acronyms phonetically. Constantly. Like, for me the SATs were never the ess-ay-tee's, they were the sat's.

Not quite the same, but when I was looking for a uni in the States to do study abroad at, one of the ones on my short list was San Francisco State University. I'm sure you can imagine what I kept reading SFSU as.

I always think FFS means For Fucking Serious. Like, 'I can't believe he said that, for fucking serious!'
