What's involved in this treatment? All my knowledge of professional straightening comes from Allure articles I read years ago when it was brand new and practically illegal because of the chemicals they've been using.

How long does it take? Does it hurt? What's the price range?

Takes about an hour and a half, maybe two. It doesn't hurt at all, it's just a chemical that they put on your hair and it relaxes it. At first it'll be really, really relaxed but as time goes by it takes more shape until it gets to a middle ground. It won't be less than $100, and I think the average is $200. it'll depend on where you live and the salon. Definitely compare salon prices.

I have not heard about it being illegal and I got mine at a salon I trust. Then again that was in Panama so the regulations may be different, but I had no side-effects and only had it done once because my hair's been fine since then.

It doesn't hurt. They just put stuff on your hair and leave it there and then wash it out and then you can't wash your hair for 48 hours or something like that.

I got one done at Aveda with their all-natural organic products, and to me, it had no effect at all and wasn't worth the money but YMMV.
