Honestly, books (movies, etc.) don't exist in the vacuum of their own worlds. You can't take terms and actions with such a loaded history and act as if they don't carry the same weight in your story. Especially when that "history" isn't so long ago anyway. When I first heard of the books, I thought it was one of these, "people don't even know what it was like before" situations. Kind of like The Hunger Games.

But Eden apparently spends most of her time looking at pictures of white people on the beach, going all, "Hahhh, if only I had been born during that time."
