yeah, it made me see the wasted potential in twilight so I don't hate it as much anymore too :)

Yess. Luminosity is what I point to when I want to prove that SMeyer totally fucked up on her characters more than anything else. Even the skeevy stuff like imprinting and the weird stuff like sparkling can be done okay in the hands of a good writer. And Luminosity is really wonderful, I honestly can't recommend it to people enough.

What's that? :)

I'm curious too...

It's a rewrite of Twilight with a Bella who actually thinks things through.

I tried reading this and found it really dull. Of course, Twilight itself is insanely boring to me, so that's probably a contributing factor, but everyone was just talking about how good it was and I was curious.

Anyways, even making Bella have average intelligence didn't improve the story for me.

how far did you get?

I liked that the villains were actually scary

and that the heroes' plans misfired no matter how well they thought them through

This is actually pretty much the only Twilight fic I've ever bothered to read.
I still hate Bella's and Edward's relationship, but this was written so well it didn't really bother me so much.

Eh, I didn't care for it. Instead of vapidly knowing nothing at all like the original Bella, Luminosity's Bella seemed to have an answer to everything, all the time; her perspective reads like meta of people's discussions of everything that was wrong with Twilight, instead of an actual story. It bothered me enough to keep me from reading too far, so I don't know if that eventually improved. I did love that she was reacted so sensibly to Edward's...Edwardness, and how Alice's powers were handled. Woulda been better if she staked him, but I guess some people think Edward has his uses (I can't imagine what those are, though).

No argument that it's an improvement on the original dreck, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I just started to read it, and yeah, it's a bit too meta.

And I'm not surprised to find out that it's inspired by HP and the Methods of Rationality, but thankfully, it's nowhere near as tedious as that self-insert crapfast.

. . . Words cannot describe how excited I am that something like this exists.

I've always loved Twilight, mostly because of my own headcanon and seeing what could have been and stuff... so I'm super excited to read this.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
This exactly. Hell, at first, I thought it was one book, and since I had just kinda skipped the "I'm not going to change you" discussion, I thought it ended with him pressing his lips against her neck, leaving it ambiguous as to whether he changes her or not. Which, I still believe, would have been a great ending. But then I found out about the sequels. Agh, I wish I had never heard about them.

Yeah, one of my favourite examples of what fanfiction can do. It sort of makes me wish she'd file off the serial numbers and publish it.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-11 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm only a few chapters in, but I like it a lot. Sure, occasionally, the agenda gets a bit too obvious, but I like that Bella is active, I'm happy that Alice approached her first, not Edward (I liked the way the van-incident was handled) and I'm glad that Bella doesn't take Edward's "broddy, mysterious dude" bullshit.

God, it's almost strange to call her Bella because she's so unlike Bella.

I would have liked it better if Bella was turned into a normal person and not an analyst. SMeyer's apparent point of Bella was to make her the every-girl, so I was disappointed that that fic didn't attempt to fix that most glaring issue.

I HATE IT
