It's easier to become a park ranger.

From what I know, you need to go to a school that allows you to specialize in natural sciences or natural resource management. But I'm guessing you already know this since you seem pretty passionate about it.

Conservation and environmental science degrees iirc. But yeah, national parks or forest, it's basically the same thing.

My uncle works for the forest service.

OH GOD THE BUREAUCRACY.

(But, uh, I don't believe he's ever had to deal with dumped bodies or rapists. "Just" this one forest fire.)

Yeah, I suppose most any government job would be full of interpersonal ridiculousness. I'd hope the mood that brings would be somewhat canceled out by having adventures and boating/horsing/driving all over the place making sure everything is calm and awesome. Working in a fire tower might be a better fit/comparison in regards to working in a more solo setting (the trees are my sleeping, vulnerable companions, and FIRE is my FIEND 8D).

haha I'm still having trouble buying that out-of-the-way forests are where the crime rates take a jump. I'm more likely to find body parts in the river that cuts through my city, a ditch, or a highway. Not a park that's more than a couple hours drive away, though I'm not saying it doesn't happen.

Thing is, just because your a ranger doesn't mean you wouldn't have to deal with people on a regular basis at your job. My aunt is one - and she ended up with a desk job [even though she *is* technically a forest ranger]. So there aren't any promises.

Plus you might very well end up dealing with idiots who get lost/break the rules/don't pack right/etc and my understanding is that they're usually less than a pleasure to deal with.

Graveyard shifts at most businesses are pretty quiet. For example, the night crew at the grocery store where I work, there's like five or six people in this giant store all night.

Or prison guards in those super maxes, where every cell is a solitary one.

Just some ideas, anon, if you're looking for a new career.
