10. Agreed \o/ However, just as often the valid reasons are also misunderstandings! A lot can achieved by setting aside bias or initial disruptions and just talking to people =\ And then there's a lot of blanket hatred on RPs that I don't really get. Short of communities that tramp around going "Whoo! We're elitist and proud of it!" i've never actually seen a community where everyone is elitist. It goes both ways, you know? What about the stranger who shows up in the midst of a bunch of friends and starts telling them their elitist? you might just be 'pointing it out' but it's still an insult, and unless done carefully you're going to offend people.

I can certainly see how an RP, any RP, can be percieved as elitist, clique-y, and accused of dogpiling! But people in general do that. clique's are often just groups of friends that are comfortable with each other. in jokes aren't made to make you feel left out so much as to make them feel closer to each other. And dogpiling can be anything from making people angry, to hurt, and they want to either give the impression they don't care, or argue back, or point out the hypocrasy.

I don't know what RP specifically you're talking about! I don't suppose it matters. I hope you work things out. And I hope it is just a misunderstanding.

20. I loved this post =\ Not because I have any issue with milking compilations as long as it gets me moar Zack, but that post secret made me sad too =\ Learning that your childhood hero isn't a perfect god (facts true or not!) shouldn't disillusion one from still loving what inspired you.

the point of the secret wasn't specifically that an RP they came across was elitist but I think (and I may be wrong) in response to all the RPers from the maligned game coming here and jumping square on a secretmaker because OMGHOWDARETHEYDISSOURBEEEYOTIFULRP???!?!!11!?!

then they start with the attacks of bitter apples and sour grapes when it may just be that someone really doesn't like the RP game and their reasons for doing so are not springing out of hate for people or for cliques or injokes or THEYJUSJEELOUS or any other of a number of reasons the RPers will use to try to smear the validity of the secret.

personally, I like when they come here and splooge all over the secret makers for it. it's usually a pretty good indication of an RP I have no intention of checking into if their people can't behave any better than that!

I've seen several "I hate X RP" secrets now, and maybe I haven't been paying good enough attention to the comments (possible) but I haven't seen too many torrents of splooge. Which ones got the dogpile?

It's hard for me to really reply when I don't know specifically what the secret in question said. WHAT COMES TO MIND! Is the "I think less of anyone who likes/plays in CFUD/ISLAND" because I play in CFUD and noted it, and there was a good bit of general wank there. But A) that was at least a month ago, and B) there weren't any reasons with that secret so I don't think that's the one? But it's the only RP secret I've noticed inspire a fair amount of wank since I've been here.

Anyway. It's fair enough. I don't really think a handful of people who decide to show up are actually all that indicative of the overall experience or quality of the RP. Because people are naturally at their worst if they are insulted somehow, and amid people being loud and rude there are almost always people being quiet and understanding. I think talking to people on an individual basis works a lot better than trying to address the community as a whole =\

But! Again I don't know what secret it refers to. I could be wrong. They could have been a mass case of RPers wankily assraping some poor OP. It certainly wouldn't be the first time on the internet. And, of course, whether it happened that way or not, and whether or not the actions of a handful are really indicative of the feelings of the many who probably never even bothered to show up, I can understand why it might not be worth someone's time to look beyond that.

sup I'm from one of of the RPs that did that, and I come in peace. \o/

H-honestly? I don't think that anyone really cared that they said bad things about our RP. If they think we're OOC? Hey, everyone has different perspectives on a character. Think we're too cliquey? aviy covered that pretty well. We're mean? If one of us finds something stupid or something, most people won't just let it go--they'll tell you that they think it's stupid. So, yeah, most--not all--of us are brutally honest with what we think.

But! I think it was the fact that the secret that made all that wank targeted the people, and not the RP itself. Yeah, a lot of us are complete assholes, but there others are really sweet and nice, and it wasn't really fair to those people. Hate the RP, not the players unless said player deserves the hatred then you're free to go RAWR RAWR RAWR or wtfever at them.
