Re: Creepy/ awkward moments...
(Anonymous) 2012-08-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)One day, I was walking back home, at night, after meeting up with a friend. The streets (in a neighbourhood usually frequented by prostitutes and pimps at night) were completely empty. A guy walks past and stops me. "Hey pretty lady, I've seen you around and you look really nice. I'd like to get to know you better" Me: Uh that's nice but- "Can I have your number? Please, we should really meet up sometime." Me: Uuhh. I don't have my phone on me, I can't remember it.
Cue a pretty story about how my number changed. He presses and invades my personal bubble in ways I really don't like strangers to get near me at night in an empty street next to a bridge. I babbled a false number and made up excuses to explain why I couldn't meet up with him later. He finally dropped it and I left, I admit I even ran once I thought he couldn't see me anymore, and I made sure he didn't follow me home.
There's also the guy who wanted to date me and confessed his love to me. He was nice but his issues had issues. I rejected him. Gently, at first. The fourth time he tried to get me to date him and tried to get my friends to convince me to date me, I was done being nice. Later, I learnt that he basically thought I should have dated him to humour his sensitive feelings and I'm pretty sure he wrote insults destined to me in Flemish in the margins of his school notes. (Thankfully for him and for me, he saw a therapist afterwards and he is now on medication. He spent a full year glaring daggers in my general direction but now he's much better. We're even sort of friends again.)

And - i'm so very sorry some jackass did that to you, and i know you were weirded out and scared.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-15 01:25 am (UTC)(link)I've learnt that particular lesson since then. The next time it happened, I just walked past and ignored the (different) man until he gave up. I'm also perfecting my "glare of doom" to scare off the less determined creeps!
