I have mixed feelings because part of me thinks it's happened too many times to be a coincidence, but I also don't disbelieve that it could be a coincidence.

It just seems like any white guy/black guy awesome bros dynamic is always the least shipped one in the series, and everyone always says it's because they're "too perfect as friends" even when similar dynamics between two white guys will be shipped in the first episode they're in together.

But like someone said above, a lot of times this happens in comedy shows so maybe it does have something to do with that. Though it doesn't explain the lack of Tony Stark/James Rhodes.

I think it has a lot to do with that dynamic being the most common among interracial pairings. A lot of popular slash ships have a slight antagonism to them in canon, if not full out foeyay, and that's more common with two white guys. Scrubs comes to mind for me, as JD/Cox was a very popular ship, but JD/Turk was extremely rare. I wish that there were more interracial rivalries on TV, since it seems like on shows, PoC can be sidekicks or best friends to the main white character, but rarely can they go against them, at least in a shippy way.

Personally, I don't actively ship Tony/Rhodes for the same reason I don't ship Tony/Pepper: the dynamic was so set by the time they were introduced in the movie that I don't bother to explore it. I like first time pairings and origin stories, and neither of them really supply me with that. :/

(I'm also not a big Tony fan, but I'll ship him with somebody when there's nothing else to read.)
