I can sort of see it. Every single one of the kids seems very lonely in their own way, if something could be done to bring them all together, I could see one or more of them holding as tightly to the pack as they could. But there would have to be that gelling moment, since the entire show has been about shifting alliances. And Stiles would follow Scott if he really did join the pack or if something could convince Stiles to join the pack, like a threat to his father, Scott would follow Stiles.

I think a lot of the pack mom stuff comes from Stiles trying to take care of his dad and Scott, which he does with regularity on the show. And he may be a little bloodthirsty in his words (like telling Allison to shoot Derek, talking about killing Jackson, etc.), he rarely is in his actions - helping with Isaac in the police station, holding Derek up in the pool, helping Erica with her seizure, the way he behaved at the rave with Isaac and Erica. It seems in his nature to be a nurturer, even if he is very sarcastic about it.

Sorry, I'm not following this at all. I guess I look and canon and I see:
-Erica and Boyd are leaving after something like a month of being part of his pack.
-Isaac is looking to Scott for leadership.
-Scott doesn't seem especially lonely and has no faith/trust in Derek as a leader.
-Derek is specifically looking to build a pack for weird magical strength reasons.
-Humans being "pack" is entirely a fic thing I'm fairly certain.

And anyway, Stiles joining a werewolf pack because of a threat to his father? How does that even work?!? The pack mom thing isn't my pet peeve, but I still think the examples you're listing are more about preventing death and dismemberment than "nurturing". It's not that I hate all fic like this. It's just that I wish more fic dealt with the complexities of the actual show, as incoherent as it may be...

Like I wrote, there would have to be a gelling moment.
- Erica and Boyd would have to be persuaded (like if Derek had actually talked to them or something).
-Isaac is looking to Scott for leadership and friendship, but he hasn't given up on Derek.
-Scott latched onto Allison very quickly and then Isaac, which indicates that he's at least looking to connect (he's not as lonely as the rest, I think, because he has Stiles, Stiles doesn't always seem to have him, though). Scott doesn't trust Derek's leadership and with good reason, but, I don't know, there's a pack of alphas (what?) out there and they may need each other.
-And who says Derek only has one motive - he keeps a lot to himself.
-I always thought there were humans in the Hale family, but that may just be fanon/speculation.

If there was some magical thing threatening Stiles' father (because the whole Matt drowning thing seemed to come out of nowhere - I thought they were going to tie it to Derek or Laura or something, but no) and they needed the strength of a pack to defeat it or maybe an alpha with a big pack or whatever, I could see Stiles doing whatever it took.

No, Stiles taking care is more about his dad and Scott, but that could easily expand to include others he cared for. The examples I listed were more about him caring about the members of Derek's pack when sometimes it seems like he's only about helpng out Scott. And yeah, it can be a big leap between not wanting someone hurt or dead and actually being friends, but not necessarily.
