Yeah. Unfortunately, my gender-balance issues are less about the number of characters, and more about who is doing the verbs. One of the things I love about FFXII is that a female character is the one driving the action, making decisions, taking risks for the sake of her ideals and responsibilities.

My divergence point is the battle for Nalbina Fortress. Basch has a rather inspired moment of heat-of-battle quick thinking, and keeps Rasler from dying. Which means everything changes. And unfortunately I can't escape the feeling that it makes the most sense for the Occuria to focus their attentions on the exiled royal who had his kingdom nuked than the one who had it occupied... Thus taking most of the verbs and choices away from Ashe. I haven't figured out how to prevent this yet. :\

I'm curious, if you're willing to share, what the divergence-point in your story is?

That sounds really cool, and kind of tricky because Rasler seemed just as vengeful and rash as Ashe, if not more so.

Mine's a bit similar. Rasler is injured and barely survives, which leaves him dealing with injuries that never fully healed, so Ashe ends up taking on a lot of responsibilities. Then due her age, the pressures of being of royal blood, and as a sort of act of defiance against the empire she decides to have children. It doesn't go so well. The Occuria, manipulate them both and sort of have them kind of feed off each others' need for revenge against the empire.
