I loved 9. He was my first Doctor. He was so rageful and mournful.

Me too! When everyone was heart-broken over Tennant leaving, I was like "Now you know my pain!"

I just finished rewatching series 1 and I always forget how much I enjoy Nine until I'm watching his series again.

Nine is fantastic, to be sure. :-)

I love Nine too! He was my first Doctor and he needs more love!

I didnt like 9 the first time i saw series one. But upon second viewing i felt like i judged him wrong. I kept seeing him as the bad guy in Gone in Sixty Seconds and couldnt really view him as The Doctor.

Now i see him as mainly The Doctor and love him more each time i watch the series. I just started over and am on episode 4. :)

But..isn't that good? I like it if characters have the power to move me.

I feel that way about Donna Noble. Well, she didn't break my heart, but her story sure did.

Never Forget

Oh yes, when she wakes up... it.s the most heartbreaking moment of the whole series for me.

This. I don't have a favorite Doctor. I love them all equally. Donna is always and forever my favorite companion, though. And the end to her story was heartbreaking.

Nine was my first doctor! \o/

I started watching the show because I liked Tennant, but by the time I got to the end of Nine's run, I didn't want him to go.

Eccleston is a fantastic actor. I make sure to catch any new shows I hear he's in (and of course while doing so I weep quietly over the fact he refuses to do the DW 50th anniversary...:c )

Does anyone have more details on exactly what happened and why he left? I've read the articles and everything, but I always felt like the explanations we got were pretty vague, and I never got the background.

I think part of it is that the making of the first series was pretty chaotic because they didn't know what they were doing and Chris didn't like the working environment that resulted.

Plus, in general, Chris doesn't seem to like to commit to long term projects, so... yeah.

I don't think it was anything particularly awful.

He's going to be Malekith the Accursed, the villain in Thor: The Dark World (a.k.a. Thor 2), which should be awesome. I hope and pray he'll change his mind about the 50th anniversary.

I saw him in Antigone at The National recently, he was fantastic, and much smaller IRL than I would have thought.

Nine is wonderful and awesome and so nobly tragic. You gotta love him.

Nine didn't so much break my heart, it was that how he regenerated having finally broken through his Time War PTSD and was able to smile and laugh and rejoice again ... and then Ten spent his days moaning and groaning about the Time War. So Nine's breakthrough was ... pointless? Fuck you, RTD.

Nine was the reason I got into Doctor Who, because Eccles was on Heroes and Heroes was my first real fandom and people kept making Doctor Who references and I wanted to know what was going on. He will always be My Doctor. I get so annoyed with my friends who go on and on about Ten and how much they MISS HIM and how WONDERFUL he was ... and I'm like "uh, remember that Doctor who, y'know, brought Doctor Who back?" Is it because he didn't have pretty hair? Really, is that it?

That's the one aspect of Ten's characterization that really bugs me. His journey is the exact opposite of Nine's and it's depressing. I suppose they did that for the "pretty-boy angst" factor? In a lot of ways, Nine was a better man than Ten, even with the limited episode count.

Chris is such a good actor, good lord.

Nine was so misunderstood because people thought he was so mean but he just couldn't let his guard down after the war. Ugh yeah he broke my heart too. I miss him. :(

He was my favourite.

I still miss him, so I make sure I linger extra long on his Series 1 whenever I do a rewatch. :C

I think that Chris Eccleston brought a gravitas to the role that no one else ever has. Also a kind of dark sexuality. I loved him. Those last two episodes of his series, the best speechifying bit of any Dr Who ever when he's threatening to destroy the Daleks, and the bit shortly before when he and Jack are in the prison, and his quiet despair about Rose being dead. He really was the best.

Tom Baker is my doctor, from my childhood, but I think Nine is definitely the best of the modern lot.

Nine is my doctor, and god, does he break my heart.
