I really don't see the appeal of this pairing. Outside of one or two incidents the Hound was pretty cruel to Sansa, even

admitting to Arya he had considered raping Sansa. Maybe it's because I haven't finished watching the second season of the show yet? I dunno, I honestly felt like in the books he had more chemistry with Arya of all people.

The show softens his image quite a bit, and I also think the actor has quite a bit of charisma so that helps. Finish watching the 2nd season and see what you think. Then we'll all see what he says, if anything, to Arya in the coming seasons. I doubt the show will have him say that, though.

The context of that scene was he was goading Arya into trying to kill him and he was trying to piss her off. If anything I imagine Sandor was filled with self-loathing for not protecting Sansa enough and letting her get married to Tyrion ("as opposed to leaving her for the fucking dwarf".)

Similar scene: Tyrion telling Jaime he killed Joffrey. He obviously didn't really kill Joffrey but he was hurt and wanted to hurt Jaime in response to what he found out about Tysha. Not the same dynamic with Sandor/Sansa but you get what I mean.

But uh.

I also don't think that he went into Sansa's room that night only wanting her to sing him a song and take her away with him.

I think there was some truth to the lie, you know? I do think that there is a sexual/sexually violent undertone to that scene.

I think he did want to take Sansa away with him.

I think he was also drunk and scared out of his mind and could have done anything but I do think his main priority was to get the hell out of dodge and bring Sansa with him.

I mean I agree that rape was a possibility but I don't think Sandor actually regrets not doing it.

Yeah, the whole "I'll have that song from you" and the fact that it'd even occur to him to say those things to Arya make it pretty clear that he had some pretty rapey intent there.

That being said, I think the TV scene they replaced it with was quite sweet.

IA with the goading but outside of the time Sandor stepped between Sansa and Joffrey (when she was considering throwing him off) and protecting her from the crazed city people he wasn't exactly nice to her. I was just really surprised when I saw how popular the pairing was and then I read the book and found it truthfully rather distasteful. He just came off as a creeper and hateful.
