You're missing the point. It isn't a popularity contest in question here, nor does "popularity" imply "excusing actions". You *can* be a fan of Loki and think he's done some pretty evil things, you know, in fact, most fans do.

"You *can* be a fan of Loki and think he's done some pretty evil things"

I know. I'm one of those fans. My point is that Loki, the character, has a much richer, more fantastic and varied history than some not-nice, regular human character that's been on TV for a couple of seasons (that I really know nothing about, having never watched the show, because: mundane). There may be more frivolous reasons he's popular, but I have no doubt that what I pointed out contributes.

And, yeah, I think it's his popularity that earns the 'forgiveness' that OP is talking about. It's just easier to love an evil Fantasy character than an evil Realistic character - in spite of all the reasons you shouldn't.

Breaking Bad is widely considered to be one of the greatest television shows ever made with the actor playing the so called mundane guy winning numerous awards for his portrayal.

I don't blame you for not knowing about the show though because he doesn't run around in spandex.

Fuck off, troll.

Hey, it's not my fault you're missing out on a great show because the main character isn't some sexy superhero with a sixpack.

don't really see how it's trolling to point out that you sound like the dumbest elitist of all when you try to subtly bag on a show you've never seen because the characters are just ~mundanes~.

Looking beyond your weird and misguided dismissal of Breaking Bad, I think your point would seem more likely if fandom didn't have a long history of woobifying and excusing the actions of plenty of characters who DON'T have years of comics history and literal mythology to draw on.*

TBH The pattern you see with Loki is very common. Walter White is the unusual character here in that he's a villain protagonist that fans -- at least some fans -- really and truly hate in the way the canon asks them to.

*Note: As someone who generally loves redemption arcs I don't mean this as necessarily a bad thing, just a statement of fact.

And this is for all the anons taking offense at my use of the word 'mundane':

The primary definition of the word is: of or pertaining to this world or earth as contrasted with heaven. So, primarily, something mundane is just something earthy or realistic, something not fantastic.

It's commonly used by some SF/F fans to mark the difference between what they like and what everyone else seems to think they should like.

So get over yourselves. I'm not interested in insulting people who watch a show like Breaking Bad, though I'm not a bit surprised that some of them would insult what I like.

I'm also aware of fandom tropes. And I agree that it feeds Loki's popularity. And if the creators of BB want their fans to "really and truly hate" their main character, then - apparently - they're doing a good job. And the OP is either a troll or doesn't watch the show or both.

Wow.

I've come across plenty of people who dismiss all fantasy and sci-fi because "it's not realistic" (an attitude which I find to be rather stupid and limiting). But I've never before come across someone who is the exact opposite. First time for everything, I guess. And, well...turns out the other side of the coin is just as idiotic.
