1. Many characters are similar, because we often use types of people. So don't feel ashamed - it's how you write
it. If you have a character who is brainy and yet also quite rude to people and not well versed socially, yes, that's like many
characters from popular literature, but it's also a good device, because many would recognize that type within themselves or someone they
knew. It's what you do with him or her.

4. It's okay - you're still welcome into the fandom. We are a little crazy, and there's corners I'd avoid, but we're not all that bad.

And it's never too late. Do you think the twenty five year old Star Wars fandomers joined it in 79-81? They wouldn't have been born in 79, and till would've been too young in '81. So no worries. :)

(Although it is nice to have been there from the start. Even though I'm been in HP fandom a long time, there's still things I missed I wish I hadn't. And even though I'm not in Star Wars fandom, I'd love to see how they did it pre-internet.)
