People wanted another one, so...

PANFANDOM REC MEME

"I ship it!"
"I want fic!"
"I want art!"
"I don't care what it is, but I want it!"
"Where's the fandom?"

Rec meme! You ask for recs, and others provide (or fill!).

Maybe there's something you'd really like to see but you can't find it. Why not ask for help? It might be out there! Or maybe there's something you really loved reading and you want someone to geek over it with. Why not rec it to someone else? Maybe they'll love it too! Who knows, someone out there might be looking for something that sounds exactly like someone you know just created.

Don't feel bad about reccing your own stuff, either! Apparently someone else wants to see it, right?

Smart action films

[personal profile] abitheliotrope 2012-08-19 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Don't know how relevant this request is, but I love action movies, thrillers, spy flicks, &etc..., but while cheesy or over the top is sometimes good, I like them slick/dark(/insert other bad noir adjective here) the best. Think Daniel Craig Bond films, or a more 'real world' Chris Nolan. Foreign/non-English speaking films are TOTALLY WELCOME. I'm far from being knowledgeable about cinema, so I usually just stick to tv, but I'm looking for less long-term commitments right now.

Thanks in advance, <3

Have you seen Harry Brown? Sounds up your alley.

Any movie made from a John LeCarre novel.

One of my all-time favorites is The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun Fat. It's very much an action film, but the plot's rather different, and it's interesting watching the characters learning to work with each other.

Different is often very good, thanks!

Salt was okay, a little over the top stunt-wise, but the story was on the dark side.

The Bourne Trilogy is what I'd really recommend for smart, slick action thriller. (I haven't seen the most recent one- The Bourne Legacy, so I don't know about that one.)

Breach is also pretty good and based on a true story.

In the Line of Fire and No Way Out are somewhat dated in their own ways, but smart and suspenseful.

There are Silence of the Lambs and one of it's prequels, Red Dragon (I prefer this version to Manhunter), which are good in their own ways.

I love the Bourne movies! Forgot to include them on my list in my OC. Haven't seen Salt, Breach, In the Line of Fire, or No Way Out, so I'll add those to my list.

Silence of the Lambs was my favorite movie in middle school. It was a strange time, haha.

You might like The Recruit. Or Layer Cake (it has Daniel Craig in it!)

Some older (and newer, I guess) ones (and maybe with some sci-fi/horror action thrown in):

LA Confidential
The Score
Inside Man
Devil In a Blue Dress
Double Indemnity
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Black Book
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy (original, though US remake isn't bad)
Pitch Black
Shutter Island
The Lives of Others
The Crazies
Colombiana (okay, this one is a guilty pleasure)
Safe House (another guilty pleasure)
Drive
Attack the Block

And if you do pick up tv series again, try Justified and Wire in the Blood. You could also check out MI-5, aka Spooks.

This is an incredible list! I'm going to be busy it seems. Thanks a ton!

(And I will inevitably go back to tv shows. I told myself I wouldn't start any new ones this summer and I started 4. Oops).

A couple of good ones from the '80s are Thief (dir. Michael Mann, 1981) - similar to but much better than Drive, and To Live and Die in L.A. (dir. William Friedkin, 1985) - really nice cops are as bad as robbers deal.
