Hear hear, anon.

I actually had this happening r/l, where there was quite pertinent gossip about me and a good friend of mine being lesbians. Added effect because we are both pretty tomboyish (she in looks, me in actions).

While there's nothing wrong with them thinking that in itself, gossip and wild stories can be harmful.

I had the same problem. It sucked. We were just a couple of sci-fi geeks who didn't have a clue about fashion and had crushes on guys that flew starships.

But apparently we were making out whenever we went off at lunch to talk about the latest Star Trek Voyager episode :P (Par for the course though - we were both mercilessly teased and mocked).

The worst part of this that gossip escalated, and long story short, at some point was requested not to "do anything inappropriate in front for my young cousin" even though I had no idea what the hell was supposed to have happened - but apparently one of my great-aunt's "friends" made up a story about me masturbating in front of him, because you know, being a lesbian is just one step away from being pedo...

The only good thing is, I told my mom about this mess straight away, and she had my back a 100 percent.

It's good your mom supported you. I don't think gossip is the worst thing ever, but making up hateful stories about people can be really damaging.

My mom's pretty awesome like that, I'm lucky in that respect.

I'm weary, because I've seen another friend of mine's reputation destroyed by gossip, so yeah..
