It's as much a reboot as the Star Trek reboot is, considering that in the interim he did some timey-wimey nonsense and changed some fundamental things about the universe...

Well, the difference is that Star Trek started over, and Doctor Who picked up later with basically the same continuity (if anything in the Whoniverse can be called continuity). It's not a do-over in the same sense that Batman Begins, Amazing Spider-Man, or even Star Trek are.

It's arguable that it's basically the same continuity considering how much is different. :P Although it did overwrite Shalka which was iirc originally meant to be main continuity. But yeah Whoniverse continuity is special - by that same token it'd be silly to do a 'hard reboot' because why bother?

Most of the DCU reboots have had various levels of timey-wimey explanation, too, and various amounts of carryover of old continuity. And meanwhile you get fandoms (like Stargate) that start over with major changes and no explanation and nobody calls it a reboot, just a different canon. It all depends.

...come to think of it, why does nobody but me call MLP:FiM a reboot?
