i have a toy poodle and i put him in clothes all the time. my friend says it's wrong, but my dog really doesn't seem to mind. what do you think?

i.e. I'll dress one pet up because she doesn't give a shit. The other freaks with pet clothing so I don't dress her up. Very much an individual pet thing.

Yes. This. One of my dogs doesn't care two hoots. One runs if we go near the closet. If the dog doesn't care, why does your friend?

At home we put clothes on our small dogs if they get cold. It depends on what the function is of the clothes. Does it make your dog uncomfortable or limit their mobility or make them unhappy? Then I would say clothes are wrong. Does it make your dog functional/happy/cute and not unhappy about some unnecessary but not impractical clothes? Then clothes are fine.

I wouldn't say it's necessarily wrong, per se, but I think it's stupid as heck. It always makes me roll my eyes, unless it's clearly for warmth (and I live in Los Angeles, that's rarely the case).

Dogs are for companionship. You want to play dress-up? That's what dolls are for.

Well, that's just like your opinion, man. I think a lot of the things that people do are stupid as fuck, but to each their own.

I put my Chihuahua in sweaters during the wintertime, because he is not equipped for cold winters. Should I let him freeze instead, oh all-knowing anon?

I don't think it really matters unless you live in a hot place and it might make your dog uncomfortable. The most I've "dressed up" my malamute is in a bandana and he tore it into 4 pieces.

No. It's cute, and I'm pretty sure they even like it sometimes.

Some dogs need clothes if it gets too cold. My ex-bf had a chihuahua who needed a sweater because it was too cold for her.

And I saw on an episode of Dogs 101 that they recommended putting some dogs in doggy sweaters if they weren't meant to handle cold well.

Two of my dogs wear clothes when it gets cold, the other just shivers, because he refuses to wear anything but his collar (and getting that on and off of him is iffy; I wish I could find the idiots who abused him before I found him, so I could beat them severely).

If the dog isn't stressed out or anything I don't see the problem. Mom had some puppy clothes for her dog when it was small to keep warm in the winter, and he actually liked dressing up. he liked playing with the big dogs more though, and the clothes didn't last long.

I have a raincoat for my dog because she hates getting wet and refuses to go outside when it's raining.

I don't put her in clothing regularly aside from that, but on Halloween I get her stupid costumes because she likes the attention she gets.

If the dog doesn't seem to mind, it's fine. Usually dogs are happy to go along with whatever makes their humans happy.
