for some reason I thought you meant this in a sims way. Like you were just randomly deciding to tell op to crack open a book and study up on the Charisma skill sims style so they could get to the top of the career ladder.
Which is pretty much what you said but that was just the context I saw it in. Yep you really needed to know that

That's how I read it too, I figured that's what they were going for.

I meant in a pen and paper rpg kind of way, but that feature in the sims must be a progression of that, so

One year my boss gave me a copy of a book about "soft skills" in the workplace, because I was always crying at work (because she was always yelling at me). One of her managers gave it to her, and she didn't think she was doing anything wrong, but she gave it to me and said I needed to work on my interpersonal skills if I wanted to get ahead, because my crying made people (her) uncomfortable.

So yes: They do make books you can read to theoretically learn about charisma, etc.
