I didn't know that and while I was googling I got distracted by this article and got angry:http://www.patheos.com/blogs/frenchrevolution/2012/08/21/parents-paranorman-introduces-children-to-homosexuality/

THEATERS ACTUALLY OFFERED REFUNDS IF PARENTS WERE OFFENDED BY THAT ONE LINE??

the comment section is also pretty stupid but what do you expect from an evangelical christian website I guess

Yeah, a lot of the reactions to that ONE FREAKING LINE were incredibly over the top/offensive. This one was just plain sad (a comment on a different article than the one you linked):

"It was a shock and I am 'horrified' that Hollywood is now pushing the Gay and Lesbian agenda on our children. If was obvious throughout the movie that there was a motive..we just didi not know exactly what it was till the ending scene. As a side note, one of the people I love most in this world is Gay and my family and kids see him almost daily- he is family. I wish I would have known before taking my 4 kids to see it. The other families I was with feel the same. Do NOT take your kids to see this movie."

wow, holy shit. So this friend of yours is practically family and yet you act like having your child be exposed to a gay character is a fate worse than death? Jeeeeeeesus, lady. That's fucked up.

Reminds me of a girl I sat next to in High School. She apparently had a gay best friend, but would never fail to mention how he was going to hell and an awful sinner but she loved him like a BFF, dig?

idk this thought process. it's awful.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-23 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
that is so ridiculous. If anything, wouldn't a close family friend be more likely to "influence" her child into being gay than one line in a family film (that's still a dumb thought process, but for argument's sake...)?

Yeah, so what are you going to do if your friend gets a boyfriend and holds hands in front of your kids - kick them both out?

Some friendship.

And the sad thing is this man might genuinely believe she sees him as family.

*blinks*

I don't really have anything to say to that.

Would that line really have even had an impact on a kid who was young enough not to know what homosexuality is?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-23 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Not even slightly

I just.."HOMG HOW DARE THEY IMPLY GAY PEOPLE EXIST!" is pretty much all I got out of that.

They offered refunds?

I can't.

I'm making this really exasperated hissing sound right now because It pisses me off how many people are willing to write off this awesome movie because of a harmless line.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-23 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
My favourite comment is the one with the 12 year old child they're trying to convince homosexuality doesn't exist at all.

Does this kid go to school? Have friends? Go online? Leave the house? Chances are, they already have know it exists.

Might be home-schooled. Might only have friends in their circle of like-minded friends. Might have internet activity strictly monitored. Might be that horrifyingly brainwashed.

I've known home-schooled kids - they know more than you think, and certainly more than their parents think.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-23 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Being home-schooled doesn't make you an oblivious idiot.

It's just a line people. From the reactions in the comments, you'd swear there was buttfucking all over the screen instead of the mere mention of a guy having a boyfriend.
