Maybe that's why it bothers you, because you haven't experienced it? I hate the "disbelieving adult" thing, too, especially when it's a parent. If I was that insistent about something, my parents wouldn't have brushed it off. If I was legitimately screaming, "This cat is EVIL and it wants to KILL ME," you know what? My parents would have chucked the cat. I just wind up thinking the other parents are idiots when they don't believe their kid.

I suppose it does depend on the kid, and the circumstances, though...
