Ugh, this.

I have the same trouble in another fandom: Adventure Time. It really bugs me that people are so sure that PB/Marceline is some secret canon that the writers wish they could do because of the events of 'what was missing.' I had a similar problem with a close friend of mine once, where I felt like I was getting treated like crap for a bit, but I still wanted to forgive because because I love her. Just... I don't love her THAT way.

It makes me wonder if people have ever had a really close platonic relationship. :/

It makes me wonder if people could ever see something on tv and not project...

It might be possible, but it'd make tv pretty boring.

It's not an issue of projection. It's an issue of people acting like "Wow, if two characters are that close they MUST have secret feelings for each other." It makes me feel like people have lost the ability to have close friendships, and it's kinda sad.

I understand why having people presume something about you in rl can suck, but as for Adventure Time... Claiming that a relationship that can be read either way is definitely one or the other (romantic or platonic, in this case) without real canon support can be annoying, but presuming that people don't have/cannot comprehend close platonic relationships just because they read homoromantic subtext into a f/f relationship that has some valid ground for such a reading is not really a great way of going about it, either. Close female relationships are terribly rare in media in general, but female relationships where the canon makes a homoromantic reading a valid one are basically non-existent. Queer readings are just as valid as platonic ones.
