Not the OP, but have a suspicion where s/he might be coming from.

There's a lot of extra-marital sexing. And people being okay with it. And trysts that don't really match up with the lack of privacy in their lives. And putting good sex ahead of propriety.

I think there's a lot of anachronisms about relationships in the DA fandom at large. It might just be extra obvious with Carson and Hughes because they're Victorian-born servants who have worked their whole lives for their positions, and could lose them (and risk disgrace and poverty) if anyone caught them in even the most K-rated situations that come up in fic. So that is a lot of disbelief to have to suspend.

But you know, it's fandom. Fandom likes the sexing. I think it's cathartic fic for a lot of people, and it just seems to be one of those fandoms where people aren't too fussed about the period accuracy. *shrug*
