There are films out there you CAN enjoy despite their faults-- and hell, if you can see the faults and still enjoy it for what it is, that's true dedication. It works with pretty much everything.

Following something blindly or enforcing your interests on others aggressively is just silly.

I feel this way about The Color Purple as a film. It has its faults compared to the book (like ignoring the lesbianism and injecting unnecessary religion), but it was still a damn good movie.

I'm the same way about Thor and Iron Man 2-- both in the gray area of being a good/bad movie depending on the viewer, but genuinely entertaining in my eyes despite a lot of faults.

I know exactly what you mean. I liked the original Tron movie but I know it's really not that good. I'd actually probably be the first one to criticize it.

But I still love that movie.

How about you? Any movie like that for you?

Yeah, I know. That's why I actually check with someone first if they like something or not before I state my opinion on it. If they match, awesome, if they don't I generally don't want to either a)shit on their parade or b)admit I like something and leave them open to shit on my parade.

Most notably Iron Man 2, Thor, Tron Legacy, and Where the Wild Things Are. People have their legit complaints about them, and while I accept them, it still doesn't derail me from enjoying the movies in completion or even having my own perception of things.

I'm pretty good about people liking things I don't as long as people don't respond with hostility about the fact that I didn't like it or have silly excuses (TKDR was supposed to be "realistic?" PLEASE).

You liked Tron Legacy? I've never met someone who liked it! That's actually kind of exciting for me. :D I didn't like it so you have to tell me, what's your favorite part?

Same here. :)

I think a lot of what I liked about Tron Legacy was the atmosphere. You could really tell how humanized, yet detached it was from the outside world. It was someone's distorted and limited vision of the world that felt aged and evolved on its own. I appreciated that it actually felt like time had passed and the technology was allowed to grow within itself. The world building was pretty good in that respect. Rules were established and each dimension (ours and the Grid) both felt the way they should.

The cast was also really fitting for it.

The story felt kind of rushed and simplistic, though. There wasn't a definite end to it and with no real sequel in sight, I can see many feeling cheated by that.

To be honest, it's a lot like Star Wars (A New Hope). You've got your typical young male hero, skilled and capable Princess, your wise/a tad nuts mentor character, and a dark and twisted former ally who gave into jealousy and the "bad ways." They have to rush in and bring down the big bad world killing device.

There are some elements missing, but it adds up to your classic knights tale. The reason why I feel it wasn't as well received was because of Tron. Rinzler is cool, but it would have been a much more powerful and respected film had they focused some more of the plot on attempting to de-evil him.

And yet, despite these faults, I still really enjoyed it.

Listening to you talk about it, I can see why you like it. Thank you for sharing with me. I'm always interested in why people like films I don't. I don't know why I like it so much, I just do. So thank you. It's been an interesting insight.

You're welcome. :D

I'm always excited to hear varying viewpoints about films. The fact that varying viewpoints and perspectives on film exist make it an interesting subject.

That's true. Maybe I should go looking for people who liked this Batman movie to get their opinions. Might be fun.
