Honestly, I think they've put it so far up front that her reaction to losing him was all about her issues with losing people that I kind of appreciate the way this relationship is developing - she's so absolutely determined to get him to say that he acknowledges some kind of life bond because she brought him back, and he's so obviously horrified that the two of them are linked to the point where she bears his wounds, and a little creeped out that she's gone this far for him. I don't think he sees them as being nearly that close, and I'm not sure he feels all that thankful.

I don't think he wanted to die, but I also don't think he would necessarily have signed on for being Claudia's karmic property.
