I mean, I was moving in my seat half-way through wondering when it would end.

Yeeeaaaahhhh, I know what you're saying. If this means anything to you, my favorite part of the movie was when they revealed the President was the same President from Stargate.
no subject
Not really, unfortunately. I haven't seen Stargate.
I always thought "the child" was a girl, so that was not a surprise. Also, I recognized Tom Hardy's physique in the scene when Bane helps Talia up on the ledge so she can escape (the first time around, when we don't get to see him say goodbye). So I was kinda underwhelmed by the discovery... and also by the ABSOLUTE LACK OF CLUES. I mean, those two clues weren't even really deliberate.
no subject
*shrug* I just meant it as, "Isn't it sad that the most interesting part of a movie for me was an unintentional cameo?" So it was like, "Solidarity!" because we were both bored.
See, I didn't get that. Because they kept telling me it was Bane so I saw the kid and dubbed them, "Shrimpy Bane". I assumed he was really young and would be packing on the man muscles later. I also didn't catch Tom Hardy either because this is the first time I've ever seen him in a movie and he was wearing robes and I just failed on that end. So yeah, I was underwhelmed too. I also felt like it was an asspull mostly because of what you said. No clues, no foreshadowing. Whiplash of wtf at seven o'clock.

"Oh I trust you so much that I will ask you to take control of my company that was taken from me in a plot that ANYONE could have proven to be a fraud/theft-thing given a few hours. Instead of actually trying to clear things up so that the company (that I abandoned for 8 years without any real reason except WAAANGTS) won't be taken from me. Yep. Trusting a random woman who poured money into the project that made me create something that can be turned into a nuclear bomb is surely the way to go. Fuck proving my innocence. This is a good decision. Yes."
Also, what was with that random 8 year hermitage? How are we supposed to believe that he loves Gotham so goddamn much when he stops doing the one thing he can do to help people in the city (now that Batman's out of the picture) and just sulks in his house? Not to mention that he has the temerity to act surprised that the orphanage gets no money and that his company isn't making any profit. (Also, why didn't his board members try to kick him out earlier if they weren't making any profit?)
no subject
Why didn't he try to prove his innocence? I think there was a throw-away line about it being "hard to do and would take years to prove" but that doesn't make any sense because everyone knows that Bane took over the stock market. Everyone knows Bane did something with a computer there. How hard is it to figure out that the purchases made by Bruce Wayne were during the time of the stock market hold up and done from that computer Bane was using? Seems pretty damn simple to me.
And really, I thought the only person Bruce trusted that much was Alfred.
Yeah, it was random and served little purpose. It really added nothing and just made Bruce look stupid, selfish, and oblivious. These are not traits of Batman. Well, maybe selfish... but he can make it work for him.
Yeah, why didn't they? No sense! There is so little sense in this movie!

1. Check the dates and time-stamps on the transactions made. You'll immediately see that these transactions took place at almost the same time (seriously, how could he have bought so much stock that fast?) and that they took place at the exact time Bane took over the stock market and did something with a computer in front of a lot of witnesses!
2. Check the stock market's security tapes. Look for Bruce Wayne. You won't find him, thus proving that he wasn't even at the stock market that day!
3. Tell the police that they did have a burglary, but that they didn't report it because it was only his mother's necklace and they have a GPS-tracker on it, but that they know realise that Mr. Wayne's prints must have been taken from the keypad of the safe.
4. Get a witness (Alfred) to prove Mr. Wayne's whereabouts for that particular time to prove that he really didn't buy those stocks.
5. You're done. Well done, not being able to do this. You suck.
Also: how did Catwoman get Bruce's thumbprint from the keypad of his safe? Who uses their thumb to punch in the code on a keypad? (Also, seriously, why doesn't he immediately make sure to catch her so that she doesn't get away with his prints? He knows she took them, why wouldn't he stop her? Seriously, how stupid is he?)
Yes, maybe Rachel too, but she's dead. I'm also annoyed by Bruce's incessant trust in Catwoman. Seriously, she first stole your prints and mother's necklace and then stabbed you in the back. Why would you continue to trust her to let her stab you in the back some more?
Batman's supposed to be the World's Greatest Detective. Uhm. Not so much in the Nolan-verse. He's just a... kinda stupid ninja.
Seriously. The board of a company like Wayne Enterprises would not put up with 8 (?) years of not making any profits because Mr. Wayne is too busy playing a hermit in his own house to do anything. They should have started a take-over process a lot earlier, if only to kick his ass in gear.
no subject
I mean, I'm not in law enforcement or anything so if even I can tell something's fishy then you have a problem. Would it have been so hard to make it less easy to crack?
Because he has a case of the stupid. It's the only explanation I can think of. That or he doesn't care about his life anymore but we saw how much he cared just a few scenes over so... I got nothing.
Yeah, I touched on that last time. Trust Catwoman into your grave, why don't you? Oh wait, he kinda did. It was weird. It was like he was channeling Superman but the thing is, Superman can trust like that because he has the luxury of being almost invincible. Batman is not so he's super-suspicious of everyone and everything. It's how he stays alive.
He's not even a ninja. He has no moves. I'd say he fights like a drunk but that would be an insult to people who actually bar brawl.
Exactly. No one likes losing money and people are going to do their damnedest to make sure it doesn't happen if they can help it, let alone for eight years.
no subject
You should never make a major obstacle, the HUGE thing that is the basis of the entire plot (because seriously, Talia wouldn't have gotten to the core if he hadn't lost all his money) something that is this easy to solve. It negates the entire story and frustrates those who pick up on it. Le sigh.
I know! Batman is known for being incredibly intelligent and incredibly paranoid. Not trusting easily is part of his character and yet, in Nolan-verse he just about trusts anyone.
Yeah, I just said ninja because he's "supposed" to be, if I remember Batman Begins correctly. However, neither he nor Bane really fight like ninjas. They just... brawl.
I mean, no board would go along with something like that, not even for Bruce Wayne. Besides, the whole hermitage seems so out of character for him. I mean... what was even the point? Why did he do it? Do we ever get a proper reason for it?
no subject
Yeah, you shouldn't have a plot that can easily be taken apart. It reminds me of "How It Should Have Ended" for Tron. I love that movie but HISHE was right in that it should have been a very short and anticlimatic story.
Batman in Nolanverse trusts almost everyone but then has a bunch of lines dedicated to telling the audience how he never trusts anyone. Actions speak louder than words Batman. No matter how much you tell me you're untrusting I'm not going to beieve it if you don't actual act that way.
Yeah, I just wanted to make fun of their fighting style some more. Because my gosh, who was the fight coreographer? They need to... go back to school or something.
Batman did it because he was SAAAAADDDDDD. Don't you know? People he loved DIIIIEEEEDDD! The pain! The agony! They were people he loved! Yes that needed to be mentioned twice! Because love! It's not like Batman has lost loved ones before and dealt with that in a completely different manner! SSSHHHH! LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE!
no subject
Yep. There wasn't really a conflict in Rises that didn't come from Batman being a moron. Seriously. All he'd had to do was not be a hermit and nothing of the entire Rises movie would (could?) have happened.
I haven't seen that. But I was kinda thinking like this watching Tron: "... If they'd just headed for the portal immediately and in secret... they'd all gotten out. Seriously."
Yep. It's a frustrating case of SHOW. DON'T. TELL. Nolan really fails at it in Rises. It's really weird how he managed to make Inception (which I really like) and then turns around and makes something like Rises. It baffles me, really.
Hahaha! Yes! They really should have had an actual martial artist on set or something. It just, did not look like two highly trained ninjas going at it. It really didn't.
Seriously? But he had the time to build a fusion reactor first? I thought he became a hermit because he realised that his fusion reactor could become a nuclear bomb or some such bullshit (seriously, that's the reasoning I got. And it's ridiculous).
I must also say how I love the fact that the "happy" ending was the bomb going off in the ocean. YES. CONGRATS. RADIATION POISONING FOR EVERYONE. HOORAY!
no subject
Heck, he could have still been a hermit. He just had to be a not stupid hermit. He could have run his company from his bed.
It doesn't surprise me because I've always found him hit and miss. I've never found him to be reliably bad or good.
They didn't? So that's why it looked so stupid...
I thought the fusion reactor was before that or during? But even so, I felt the movie capitalized on his hermititis being because of the events in the film before and the bomb just happened.
Maybe they're masochists and they're happy that instead of a relatively quick death now they get to die agonizingly slowly?
no subject
That's true. He could have stayed holed up in his house as long as he still performed his duties, even from afar. Ugh. The hermit thing is so stupid though. :/
I will admit to not having much to compare as I'm not the most avid movie watcher and haven't seen many of his movies.
I don't know if they did or not, but it sure doesn't look like they did...
Huh. I thought for sure that it was after... Hmm... And now I'm confused about the timeline as well. Hum.
Yes. A slow death is obviously preferable?
no subject
What are you talking about? Of course, everyone prefers a slow death.
