I'm not very fond of cutscenes either, but the advertising on the back of the games tends to be very misleading with its cherrypicking of screenshots and boasting of how many gameplay hours there are.

Of course, they've got to make sales and there's game reviews and all, but it sucks buying a product that turns out to be different than what you thought you were buying.

Yeah that does suck. I guess I never noticed that before it wasn't something that caught my attention? I tend to look at what fighting style a game uses (Oh how I miss ATB) and if they story looks intersting.

I see three screenshots. One is obvious gameplay, one is a cinematic cut scene and one is a regular cut scene. I don't see what's misleading here, it seems more like they wanted to show you these three aspects of the game. I don't see any implication that there's more of one aspect of the game than another.

Exactly. There are way, way more gameplay and regular cut scenes than cinematic scenes, but those pictures make it seem like there is more of a balance in the distribution.

My memory might fail me, but I only remember in that version of the game two animated scenes:

The one that serves as an introduction/opening before you reach the main menu. This is longish and basically shows all the characters and a few random scenes of the plot.

One during a critical point of the game. This one lasts very little.

...And that's it. They added some more in a newer version (the Japanese PS2 one, I think?).

I didn't see it that way, just that the box art is trying to show you those different parts of the game. I don't see how that implies there's a perfect three-thirds ratio of each in the game, it's more like they just wanted you to see how all of the game looked and not just one aspect of the game

There's a third which serves as the ending after the final boss as well.
