does this warrant a trigger warning?
(Anonymous) 2012-08-24 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)Am I insensitive in thinking that's totally unnecessary?
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Well, at least they're careful. It's always better to be safe than sorry, although IMO that's taking it a bit too far in the safe direction. . .
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Safe is good, but that strikes me as a little...excessive? I know it's better to warn than not even if you're being a little overcautious, but for hugs?

Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
But the MIB forgetter thing? Yeah... that's kind of ridiculous.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
(Anonymous) 2012-08-24 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)She was just hugging him and looking sadly/longingly up at him and he was looking off over her head at nothing without much of an expression. It was more sad and awkward than forced or creepy.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
In that case, yeah, there's no need for a trigger warning.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
I'm not big on warning. I'll warn for the obvious major triggers, but not much beyond that. Warning for situations in which something could potentially happen, even if it doesn't, seems really excessive and unnecessary.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Anyway, I agree that it's not something I would expect to see a trigger warning on. But I can see why someone might decide to use one, especially if they happen to know someone who is seriously freaked out by the idea of deliberately induced memory loss.
The trigger warning for the hug almost seems stranger to me. But that could just be because my imagination isn't syncing up with the actual image -- there's a difference between "not into it" and "upset by it", and hugs can range from barely touching to "dear god how many hands do you have?!?"
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Anyway...
I'm not a hugging type (social anxiety, yay) so my feelings range from mild discomfort to outright dread, depending on who the person is and in what situation. I still wouldn't consider it a trigger worthy of warning, though.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
But if not...
On the other hand, that's not the worst idea
Goddamn it, I'm not going to write MIB rape fic tonight, I'm not!
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
I'd have comic K and J rape movie K and J. And nobody knows about comic K and J so it wouldn't be well recieved.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
No one would remember. That's the entire point.
Oh, wait. You mean the people reading it?
Because let's just be honest here, I have a fondness for violent non-con, and IDGAF who it's written about.
Charge on, brave knight.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
(Anonymous) 2012-08-25 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)but you already read it, don't you remember?
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
(Anonymous) 2012-08-25 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)Now, if you wrote MiB fic with rape or other non-consensual acts, regardless of whether the flashy thing was involved - then that should be warned for, just like you would warn for rape in fic in any other fandom. Warning just for the flashy thing when it isn't used in a problematic way is like writing Star Trek fic and warning for transporters.
Re: does this warrant a trigger warning?
Not to mention it runs the risk of spoiling the goddamn story half the time.
