I disagree. Take a trip at the Content Violation forums on TV Tropes and see how many people have become so desensitized AND then had other similar people reaffirm them in a feedback loop that now they can't even tell what counts as porn or as sexualizing children.

It took them a ridiculous amount of time to decide which pages to keep, and they kept (with an instruction to "clean") a lot of pages that blatantly sexualize children in a "family friendly wiki". They saw nothing wrong with this.

I used to think just like you do until I saw that and realized that people (not all, granted, but a scary chunk) were starting to see lolicon and shotacon as normal.

Obviously not everyone reading/watching them are molesting children, but they're contributing towards keeping that market alive.

Yes, exactly. The problem is sexualized children being so commonplace that people no longer give a shit. It's the car alarm effect. People are so desensitized to the car alarm that their intended purpose no longer exists. Nobody's going to report when they hear one go off because lol, that shit happens all the time, it's just a cat or something.

If you're worried about people becoming desensitized to the sexualization of children then maybe stuff like the Disney Channel and kids' clothing should be taken into question before something like loli hentai -- since the former is way more prevalent and embedded in our culture.

It's a cultural problem in general. And I don't know a single person who thinks loli or shota is normal, most people I talk to online consider it something gross that creeps like. Just because people joke about it and dismiss it, it doesn't necessarily mean they think it's acceptable

I think that should all be taken into question at the same time, not before or after anything else. Including shit like toddler beauty pageants, too.

This, seriously. That's way more skeevy than shota/loli because it's real kids and it's teaching real kids that it's okay to be sexual at a young age. I saw a girl who couldn't have been older than eight today wearing booty shorts so short that her ass was practically hanging out. THAT'S a hell of a lot more damaging than someone enjoying a kink in private.

That's pretty damned awful but don't minimize what can happen when pedos who "enjoy their kinks in private" can't get off to 'drawn' kid porn anymore and go looking for the real thing.

It's not true for everyone who get off on drawn kid porn, but it's true enough that I wish ALL forms of kid porn were illegal. I don't care if it's a kink for some people, it's DISTURBING to me that there are people who get off on kids having sex with adults or with each other. It FEELS like vicimization, whether anyone's being abused in the art or not...maybe because in the back of my mind I know that somewhere in the world, there IS a real child being abused by the same acts that are getting a fan of drawn kid porn off.

Here's how I tend to see it.

Is it possible (and maybe it's not, I have to psychology training, so I'm just talking out of my hat here) that there are people who do find children arousing, presumably through no fault of their own - I don't recall being asked to fill out a survey to determine what my own personal kinks would be, were you? - but are sane and compassionate enough to realize that "If I EVER act on these desires, there is no rationalization strong enough to change the fact that I am causing real harm to a real child, and thus I will not do it"?

Or does the very fact of having this particular predilection go hand-in-hand with the lack of ability to understand - or care - that preserving other people's safety is more important than getting off? Certainly the latter trait can exist independent of pedophilia, or rape of adults would never happen, but is the reverse true?

For a person in that situation, the difference between this kind of art and pornographic photos might be similar to the way I love crime fiction but can't stand true-crime books - because with the latter, I'm unable to look past the real person's victimization and suffering being shoved in my face, while the former is escapism.

Yes, the Disney Channel and kids' overly-sexualized clothing SHOULD be taken into account as well. But that's so "normal" at this point, that cartoon CP (no matter what kind of Asiatic-sounding name you slap on it) is starting to breach the boundaries of "normal" as well.

Not to mention all the secrets posted here BY TEENAGERS who are absolutely desensitized to this stuff, AND THEY DON'T EVEN REALIZE HOW TERRIBLE THAT IS.
