Ever been hesitant to see a movie, FS?

[personal profile] morieris 2012-08-24 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I kind of want to see Coraline, but I fear I'll be totally biased against it for a number of reasons (Not liking the actual book for one, and liking LAIKA's other movie far more.)

It's quite good imo and not very long if I remember correctly so I feel like trying to watch it probably wouldn't be a complete waste of time :)

I finished it!

I remember what I didn't like about the book, and that was Coraline herself. She was better in the movie though...after the first fifty minutes. But GOD was it beautiful.

Yeah. The Avengers, for one. Mostly because I was so over comic book movies, but my brain convinced me to try it out. (By that I mean I had a super silly and awesome dream with "scenes" from the movie, and then I just had to watch it.)

I was hesitant to watch Megamind because of my overwhelming dislike for Will Ferrell. Should have listen to myself on that one, despite the fans' cries of "He's not so bad in it!" He was. He was.

The movie's actually pretty good in my opinion, though compared to other children's shows it's probably creepy.

I'm not sure how valid my opinion is considering I like the book as well, but I think it's worth watching just for the visuals alone! There's also Wybie for Coraline to talk to and I feel like she's rather different in the movie. If you do manage to watch it, I hope you enjoy it C:

(but I really want to see ParaNorman!)

Oh, but in regards to your subject, I don't recall being hesitant to see a movie. I'm the type that gets excited to watch an interesting-sounding movie, but then I feel disappointed by the time it finishes.

Yes. All of them. There's a whole bunch of movies I want to see but just never got around to. Most of the popular movies of late I just heard about on the internet.

I'm the same way. For a while I was actually going to the movies but mostly I just stay home. Still haven't seen The Avengers. Might never, even though it looks fun to me.

I'm a pretty big Batman fan, but I'm not too eager to see the new movie. I loved Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, and I don't want to destroy my childhood.

Anne Hathaway is an amazing Catwoman and the best part of the movie, so you don't have to worry about that part. The Bane plot drags a bit, and there are a lot of plot holes, but I enjoyed it.

I've heard nothing but awesome reviews for her, but I'm still nervous. :\

Dudebro comedies. All of them. It's hard for me to sit through over an hour of low-brow humour, so I do my best never to be dragged into them.

So this went into my reluctance to watch 21 Jump Street, because I had somehow fooled myself into thinking it was a dudebro movie. Which it wasn't. And it was so beautiful ♥

Seconded on the dudebro comedies. I watch an Adam Sandler one recently sort of in passing--Grown Ups, I think?--and every time I looked at the screen, it was of one of the uber-hot wives being wrong or them making funny of this one guy's "ugly" daughter or older love interest. Made me want to punch whoever keeps greenlighting these things, to be honest.

Can Adam Sandler just stop making movies? Please? Guy can act, imo, but I can't for the life of me comprehend why anyone would think he ever needs creative control of anything.

Well, to be fair, the trailers made it look so bad. I haven't seen it, because I am hesitant due to the unfunny trailers.

I'd recommend it if you liked Mean Girls.

It's like Mean Girls got infused with The Other Guys and Never Been Kissed, and imagine that the Teen Wolf tv series was the 80's seris that the cheesy movie was inspired by in terms of reboots.

And it's self-aware.

It works. It has no right to, but it does. It must be some kind of science.

Schindler's List. I know it's supposed to be amazing and it's my mum's #1 fave, but I'm just too scared to watch it.

I'm hesitant to see DKR right now (like since it was announced, I've been hesitant), so yeah, I know how you feel.

If you liked ParaNorman, you will probably like Coraline. The movie diverges from the book in some subtle ways: whoever the writers were gave Coraline a little attitude and a human, Coraline-aged character to bounce off of (whom I thought would annoy me but ended up being delightful). It was also funnier in a more silly, cartoonish way than the book, which I thought was only funny in a very dry, understated manner.

I loved the book, so I may be biased, but I was really worried about the changes before the movie came out because they seemed to change the fundamental things I loved about the book. So maybe some of the things you hated about the book would be changed or toned down? I couldn't say without knowing why you didn't like it.

It was so long ago that I read it, I hardly remember the details. But I did just finish the film and it was probably the most humorless move I've ever seen - and I liked it that way. It was almost a kid's psychological thriller.

Snow White and the Huntsman. It looked so so pretty in the trailers, but the story is apparently a clusterfuck and I dunno if I can handle such lovely actors and cool effects being wasted on a crap retelling that does nothing useful with all the underlying themes of the original fairytale. I really hated the recent Red Riding Hood and Beast for that.
