Okay, okay, sure. If someone wrote really carefully thought-out, interesting, asexual, aphysical cyber-spiritual "interface romance" between Transformers, I'll allow as how there might be something to that. Might.

But the truth is that as a boy who grew up with Transformers, I'm basically uncomfortable with shoehorning them into romantic situations. I simply don't think it works; I don't think it's what Transformers is about. Now, don't get me wrong -- I don't actually think anybody is "ruining" anything; my memories and enjoyment of the plastic toys of my youth are not so fragile. And of course I don't read what I don't like. Moreover, I don't begrudge any fangirl her flights of fancy.

However, I do reserve the right to find that flight of fancy ridiculous and intellectually bankrupt. Which I do.

The "interface romance" thing has been done before. Sometimes quite well, and sometimes it comes out sounding...pretentious.

I take it this is more about idiot fangirls who pair the bots up just because? Because I agree that that's completely retarded, but not every Transformers romantic fan is like that. Really.

Romance definitely isn't what Transformers is about. Such a concept is non-existent in the comic, and only shown briefly in the cartoon. I understand completely.

Your comment just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not active in Transformers fandom anymore, but I remember times when people who wrote these kind of things (the better, more thought out fics and what-have-you) were torn to shreads by an onslaught of people who felt that the bots could only be fighting and kicking ass and taking names and anything to the contrary was heresy, from introspection/character depth heavy fics to friendship fics to the kind that we're talking about now.

Sorry I mistook you for that kind of person.

No problem! I was being pretty abrasive. It was supposed to rub people the wrong way. :D

I definitely think that in the hands of a good writer you could do more than ass-kicking and blowing shit up with Transformers. Unquestionably.

But yeah, the whole phalanx of fans whose first instinct is the make with the Ships and the OTPs... that just gets a big fat eyeroll from me.
