I wasn't into it back in the days of just the one game, because they had literally no interaction; there was nothing to ship outside of...both of them being optional characters? Idk.

I admit I barely remember Advent Children (only saw it once), so I don't remember if they interacted in that, but then my roommate started playing through Dirge of Cerberus for some reason. Awful game, but man. I ship it now.

DoC piqued my curiosity so I had a look at fic and some fanart then bam, shipping it without any further effort required. It also doesn't help that I have a large fondness for age gaps with M/F pairings.

Don't worry, OP. I shipped them since 13. (And they did have some interaction although limited in the original game). I was thisclose of getting DoC because it pretty much made Yuffie's feelings for Vincent canon.

I don't think a ship can be OOC unless it's extremely implausible because the character would never think of touching each other much less doing the horizontal tango (aka Sephiroth/Cloud after the Nibelheim massacre).

Vincent barely tolerates even the toned-down characters, hates himself, and remains fixated on a dead chick. Do you really think that's going to change for a hyperactive ninja girl without some serious tweaking? Ship what you want and all, but that's easily as implausible as your OOC example there.

Argh, Yuffie/Vincent. I always felt like they were paired together because they were the two optional characters, and the least developed characters besides that. No, wait, that's not fair to Yuffie, but Vincent is literally the blandest character in FFVII.

But mostly... Yuffie's a 16 year old girl, Vincent is essentially in his, like, 40s. And he's creepy and angsty. I pretty much ship all of Avalanche with everyone, but this is the one pairing (sans Nanaki pairings) I can't get into.

I love Vincent in his own way. I can't stand the thought of taking him seriously, so Dirge Vincent is kind of "...no", but his OGC self is so hammy and it's hard to believe he's not at least somewhat aware of it. Especially when the game makes it blatant with everyone boggling at his decision to shut himself in a box rather than throwing a pity party or something.

I have never liked a fanfic with their pairing that is devoid of funny because how can you do that they are pretty much ultimate odd couple

Yuffie is cheesy and shameless, Vincent is a knock off of monster movies that you can't take seriously. It was a match made in heaven to my shipping likes. It can be cute and funny and awkward and silly and weird. The idea of them at a costume party is gigglefit worthy.
