Haha. Hannah's going to have a heart attack when she sees this.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Also I bought this ages ago and this reminds me that I need to read it. FREE TIME, WHERE ARE YOU?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
It's gone to F!S.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a secret. But I'm sure it's great and needs a signal boost and blah blah.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm tempted to agree, but I dunno, maybe OP would genuinely be embarrassed to admit wanting a fandom for a self-published book? They don't have the best rep, after all.

*shrugs* I long ago came to terms with the fact that the definition "secret" people use here is very different from mine. So I just try not to judge.

It looks to me more like what OP really wants to say (and is hiding in the B!S) is that the book could use some editing. Not sure why you'd be coy in a secret here, though. :/

I take it from the first comment that the author reads fs, so OP probably didn't want to hurt her feelings?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
AYFT (about the first comment)

IDK if she reads FS regularly. I just know that some of her friends have already let her know about it.

I don't say this often, but personally I felt like I was reading het chick lit and didn't understand why the author bothered making it m/m.

It wasn't terrible, but it definitely did not float my particular boat at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
What made you feel like it was het chick lit? And what's the main difference between that and an m/m romance? I don't usually read either, so I really have no idea.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-27 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean it had well-worn traditional-heterosexual-dynamics romance tropes?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
da

I didn't see anything I would consider a stereotypically male/female dynamic, but then again I don't read much het romance so maybe there are stereotypes/tropes I'm not familiar with?

There was no power imbalance, no pre-determination of the roles in the relationship and no really ridiculous misunderstandings that stupidly keep couples apart in so many romcoms/romance novels. I actually found it quite refreshing.

. . . you don't understand why it's better to have a queer romance rather than another het one?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I have never read a self-published book that didn't need a shit-ton of editing, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I LOVED this book! It was so clever and well-written. Seriously one of (if not THE)the best m/m books I've read.

I haven't read this book yet because I'm poor (and I keep forgetting to buy it lol oops) but I LOVE THIS AUTHOR so I really want to.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-28 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Calling B!S. I don't think this is a real secret. Nice attempt at marketing, though.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-29 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto. It's either the author or one of her friends.

Everybody wants to be the next 50 Shades of Gray.
