Tips on being a better singer?
Thanks in advance. :)
Re: Tips on being a better singer?
A good rule of thumb in advance: if it hurts your throat more than just feeling like it is exercised, then whatever you are doing is not good singing technique and you should stop and reevaluate your lessons before you (literally) hurt yourself.
Another tip: don't try to sing something too hard or too high etc. on your first go. Practice getting better at something you can already sing before you move onto something challenging. Widening your range is a good skill to have, but again, if you're not practiced attempting to sing way too high for you too often with bad technique can hurt your throat.
I recommend having a piano handy if you're serious about teaching yourself. If you try to teach yourself to sing without the aid of a keyboard or piano (or even idk a piano app on your ipod, something), it's going to be much harder for you to figure out how to match pitches and for you to make sure you're singing whatever you want to sing in the right key with the right notes.
But really, have fun! Singing should be enjoyable to you, so don't feel discouraged or worry that you're not as good as other people. I hope you enjoy your studies :) Sorry that I don't have any linkage, I was taught to sing by voice teachers in High School, so I'm just passing along info I already have.
