but fanfic is extremely indulgent, and while i would say twilight is to a large extent as well, it's not quite on the same level.

For real? I'm having trouble naming a fanfic more indulgent than Twilight. Granted, I wield the backbutton like Loki wields his crazy, so there probably are plenty of compu-global-hyper-mega-indulgent stories out there, whereas I've read tonnes of fic superior in plot (loooooow bar), writing quality (low bar) and characterisation (Twilight has what now?).
