Re: Other graduate students out here
What a very cool topic; I don't find it boring at all. Are you from that area? Is that what piqued your interest in his work?
My topic is on a Victorian writer named Ouida (pictured in the icon). I'm looking at social anxieties of the time period as represented in her work.
Re: Other graduate students out here
And thank you. My friends are so sick of hearing about it, and most of them have no interest, so when I talk about their eyes glaze over.
I am from the area - I grew up in the Milwaukee area, and I was researching a Greenbelt town from the 1930s for a project, I stumbled on another project in the Milwaukee area which led me to Whitnall who was part of it. He's actually a pretty big mover and shaker in Milwaukee and people have done little research on him, so here I am. His son, Gordon, was actually a pretty important planner in the LA area around the same time.
That sounds super interesting! The Victorian era is such a fascinating time for me - all the social stuff, but drugs and doctors giving their patients orgasms was also bopping around. Is it an English dissertation? Or a history one?
