Oddly enough, I always think of Scootaloo as male. They are always so adamant that they aren't girly, so it would be interesting if they are actually trans. Why do you see Rainbow as male (and by male I hope you mean a transstallionman, not a pre-op transmarewoman.)

why would one be better than the other? just wondering.

Oh, I never said one would be better than the other, just that I never thought of Rainbow as male and I have thought of Scootaloo as male. Whatever your headcanon is, I don't mind :)

I think they meant "why would the OP meaning "pre-op transstallion" be better than "pre-op transmare"...

...the answer to which is of course that calling a trans person by their physical gender is hugely disrespectful and the OP would be hugely disrespectful if they meant that.

ah, i see! sorry, i was a bit confused because i actually read it as "pre-op FTM or pre-op MTF" and was confused why one would be better than the other. i need to read more carefully.

It's hugely disrespectful to biology and language to ignore the fact that "he/she/her/his/etc." can refer to gender *and* sex and therefore either can be used.

...wow. I'm really interested to see the responses *this* comment gets.

Frankly I disagree - I'm a biology student myself, and biology isn't a person with feelings...

DA

technically you're correct, but it's really disrespectful to the HUMAN BEING you're talking to to disregard their feelings and their identity.

pronouns referring JUST to sex can be used on animals that don't have gender identities. actual humans deserve the basic respect of treating them as you (and they) would want to be treated.

Kind of like it's completely fine to use any, say, race-related terms in any context whatsoever since rules of language say it is? Because words and the way they're used never carry any connotations, and the way language is generally used isn't fundamentally tied to the situation and context it's used in?

Just remember that whenever you're insulted and ridiculed, it's the grammar that matters, and certainly not you.
