My parents never made a big deal about it. We had plenty of books when I was growing up, and I was never prevented from reading any of them; anatomy books, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex, But..., Kama Sutra, etc. My mother told me to ask, if I ever had any questions. This approach worked pretty well for me (both with getting to know about periods and sex/porn).

And as a side note, when I was 10, I knew what a boot fetish was.
