Replace "idolize" with "lust" and I think you're a little closer to the real issue. I mean, Tom Hardy reduces anyone sexually attracted to men into a gibbering pile of "Gimme".

That said, people also have an attraction to strength and wildness, generally. Would we really want our city taken over by lawless guerillas? No. But it's a very romantic idea. (Using the word romantic in the term of appealing drama) (At least to people who have never lived in fear of that kind of thing) And what's more dimestore novel than the charismatic guerilla warfare leader?

I luurve me some Tom Hardy, but when he plays a bad guy, I cannot find him attractive. Like his role in Cape Wrath - I needed lye soap after watching that. Not everyone sees Tom Hardy in a villainous role and goes, "Oooooo shiny and pretty..." just because of his pretty...everything, tbh

I am baffled by this comment because I am a person is sexually attracted to men and yet the best I can muster for Tom Hardy is a "not ugly" on occasion (and really only after being given a decent amount of time to get used to his face).

Seriously. I'm a straight girl (well, mostly, but the point stands that I like men) and I don't find Tom Hardy attractive at all. And I don't know if I'd even go so far as "not ugly", honestly.
