OT: Is this movie worthy of renting? I'm not a huge fan of Bond like movies. If it's all just shooting guns and shuffling a maguffin across a bunch of foreign cities, I'm going to be bored. If it's clever, funny, smart, or touching, I can get into it, but not just all car chases all the time.

There are zero car chases in this movie and a gun is only fired twice.

It's a movie about men and how they relate to each other. Even though it's about spies, it's not a spy movie if that makes sense. Don't expect to understand it, because it's not really easy to comprehend unless you've read the book or recently seen the Alec Guinness series. The people who have done those seem to get it.

Also I;m sure Le Carre was inspired by the actual spies, Philby Burgess, McLean and Blunt. Because there's a lot of similarity with these characters, including how many of them are gay.

I found it pretty dull, actually, but most of my friends really liked it, and the internet seems to love it, so maybe I'm just uncultured or something.

It's a beautifully made film. Pretty much the opposite of Bond, which while I enjoy the Bond franchise, I love TTSS to death.

Yes. I liked how unhurried and subtle it felt; the music at the very end of it was beautifully paired with the imagery :)
