I've been addicted to xD for so long. I managed to cut off all the emoticons I used to use when I was fourteen...but not that one.

I guess people let it go when they started using gifs as a substitute for it!

yeah I still use it too. lol sounds a bit too off-hand and awkwardly typing several 'haha' just doesnt cut it for me. to be fair I only use XD with close friends

oh no, she uses that all the time too. In fact about everything she writes is inundated with at least three different types of smileys. The worst part is that I introduced her to XD! I'm trying to wean myself off the XD right now but it's still useful in some situations. Yeah I just don't think I'll be able to handle the addition of ^_^ to the repertoire of XD :) and :DDD... it's all exhaustingly cheerful looking.

Oh GOD. I had a grown-ass friend in her early 20s use XDDDDDDD every. Other. Freakin'. Sentence!

It is honestly one of the reasons I stopped texting her as much. I couldn't handle her answering me like a cracked-out 13 year old anymore.

Right? This smiley thing sits into a situation where you feel like you should say something.... but its still not that big of a deal and so you'll look like a jerk for saying it.

I have a question about XD.... I've always seen that X as a literally X and interpreted the smiley as "wow I don't even know what to say about that, that was.... yeah..."

But recently I get the feeling people use it as if the X were >__< eyes and mean it in some sort of crazed ":)" way???

How do you see it/use it, F!S?

I see it as a sort of shorthand for someone laughing? Yeah, with the eyes going like >_< like they're grinning madly or something.

No idea what the millions of mouths version means though.

I always thought the multi-mouth meant that a single smile cannot contain allll the glee.

I use it when :) and :D don't quite represent my excitement. It's the most excited I could possibly be, kind of thing.
