Well for context, the girl covering the other girl's mouth is Lina, she's a tiny little girl (I think she's supposed to be about 16?) she is an extremely powerful sorceress, but the whole gag is people don't often take her seriously because she's so small.

The other girl is Amelia, who's kind of one of Lina's sidekicks. Though in reality Amelia would probably be much more politically powerful then Lina because Amelia comes from a rich and powerful family. I don't know what you mean by position of power though so this is why I am mentioning that.

It's just a silly series about sorcerers and Lina isn't actually hurting Amelia, Lina just has a bad temper and is violent. It's all a joke, maybe you wouldn't like it? But I don't know how you could stand to watch anything if Slayers is too violent for you... because really, it's pretty innocent.

I didn't find it triggering at all, myself, but... honestly, anon, when someone says she finds looking at something viscerally disturbing, I'm not sure explaining is the right move.

The thing about triggers, if it is one for the thread-starter, is that they're not always logical. (It's easy to think they are, if you're just used to seeing warnings online.) Sometimes people's minds make connections and all they can see is that connection.

I understand about triggers, I just thought it'd be helpful to explain since the OP said they had no context for the GIF, especially since they were talking about "position of power" I didn't know if they knew Lina was a girl? (could be hard to tell in that GIF)

I also thought it was worth explaining because it's worth noting that the person who posted that GIF could be considered rude, but I don't think they were intending to trigger anyone.

I have my own triggers myself, and sometimes context does help.

Okay, that makes sense. I read your comment as kind of "whoa, calm down"y and I don't think that's helpful, but I get what you mean now.

I do think some people just have trouble with depictions of things like chokeholds regardless. I'm not one of them, but I've seen people's context brains turn off at that kind of thing.

(My mom, for example, couldn't even watch early Xena. She knew intellectually that the fight scenes are silly, but her mind goes into a loop at ANY depiction of violence, so she would often turn away from scenes that made me and my dad crack up laughing for the silliness.)

The power thing wasn't so much about whose powerful in the GIF, it's about a person of power over the community (a moderator) using such imagery to silence a common poster...to me it feels less like GIF-emoting and more like "If we were IRL, this is what I would do."

And that makes me very uncomfortable.
