Yes this! Fun fact time-- I come from rural northern NY, and we've got very similar speech habits.

I have an aunt in CT-- according to her, the amount of Polish and Dutch settlers are responsible for CT's glottal stops, because they have that specific sound in their linguistic arsenal.


But then northern NY was settled by a bunch of Scots, Irish, and Scots-Irish, and that's where we got it from. You go more north, and you run into the Anglo-French settlers where it's not as apparent, or further south, and it's become the Northern Cities vowel shift, and you don't hear the glottal stops.
