Man, I don't know. I completely get why mods would be authoritarian as hell. I mean, from my experience at least, the only way to ensure that you have a community that's good and that stays that way is by being very willing to ban or probate people. If you're not willing to do that, there's no way (ultimately) to keep a community from going down the shitter, because people are always going to troll or create drama, and in general do things that are not desirable and that tend to destroy the community, if they're left to their own devices. It's inevitable. The mod has to be willing to decide, and they have to ultimately decided what is bannable.

I have a very Hobbesian outlook on internet communities, I guess. I haven't looked at the specific incident that the OP is referring to, maybe it was just, maybe it wasn't. I'm just saying. Banhappy mods aren't the worst thing ever.

Banning is one thing. Telling people to fuck off is another. You can be authoritative without being rude.
