It's the way in which crime is handled in the film though.

I don't have disdain for people that like them. I just am personally not very comfortable with them.

alright, that's cool. i'd be interested though to hear about opinions re: the handling of crime in the movies being conservative because i am a giant criminology geek, anyway.

i actually thought that batman begins, for instance, was sympathetic towards criminals who broke the law for a reason (like stealing to survive). TDK even has the scene between the two boats where the imprisoned and the civilians decide not to take each others' lives and it's presented as the right decision. batman himself makes a point not to kill anyone. there's both optimism towards and critique of the court systems in all of these movies. i don't think any of that suggests a conservative attitude towards crime.
