Re: Explaining sex and porn to kids

I don't believe in making a big deal about sex. I don't think it's a matter of when to start teaching kids about it. It's a matter of giving age-appropriate information as necessary. Most things can be explained in a way that young kids can understand, and then built on once they're ready to hear more.

When I was a kid, my parents did get me a kids' book about sex when I was about six or so. It was a pretty good book, and looking back, I'm impressed because it talked about things like sexual orientation and sexual pleasure, as opposed to just anatomy and procreation.

But other than that, there wasn't any formal talk when I was a kid. I asked questions and/or was told things when they came up.

If I ever have a kid, I'll probably try to handle it the same way for the most part. The only difference is that I'd probably be more aware of the possibility of my kid encountering porn and kink.
